The Watch

The same rules. A different alphabet

Étiquette takes the rules of the rectangular dress watch — proportion, symmetry, restraint — and politely ignores a few. This edition tells the time in Bangla (Bengali) numerals. Custom numerals, familiar yet deliberately distorted, sweep in silver across a lacquered dial — green with a red centre, or saffron with a green centre — held by Pedral's signature inner dial frame. At 27 × 43.7 mm, built on the golden ratio, and no more than 7.7 mm thick, the case is slim, elegant and slightly eccentric.

Ten pieces, made to order. For those who grew up counting in Bangla — in Bangladesh, in West Bengal, Tripura and Assam, or a long way from any of them. A faceted geodesic crown and a finely tapered leather strap finish it. Restrained in dimensions, expressive in character.

The Script

Counted in Bangla.

Bangla is spoken by more than 250 million people — in Bangladesh, where it is the national language, and across India, where it is an official language of West Bengal and Tripura, is spoken throughout Assam's Barak Valley, and is one of the country's 22 scheduled languages. Few scripts are read by more people every day. Almost none of them have ever appeared on a fine watch.

It is a language that has shaped the world's culture. Rabindranath Tagore wrote in Bangla, became the first non-European to win the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1913, and wrote the national anthems of both India and Bangladesh. Kolkata gave the world the films of Satyajit Ray, generations of poets, painters and musicians, and Durga Puja — now recognised by UNESCO as intangible cultural heritage.

And it is a language people have fought to keep. On 21 February 1952 — Ekushey, the twenty-first — students in Dhaka gave their lives defending the right to speak it; that day is now marked around the world as International Mother Language Day. On 19 May 1961 — Unishe, the nineteenth — eleven people were killed in Silchar, in Assam's Barak Valley, demanding that Bengali be recognised there too. They won. Both days are remembered every year.

The numerals themselves descend from the same ancient Indian numerals that gave the world the decimal place-value system — the counting every watch dial quietly relies on. Étiquette Bangla brings them back to the dial, in two editions named for those two days: Ekushey, in green and red, and Unishe, in saffron and green. One script, shared across a border. Ten pieces, made to order.

Fit & Dimensions

How it wears.

Case

27 × 43.7mm

Thickness

7.7mm max

Strap / Bracelet

20 → 18mm

At 27 mm wide and 43.7 mm long, Étiquette is built on the golden ratio, giving the case a balance that feels right before you know why. Its slender profile, no more than 7.7 mm, sits discreetly beneath a cuff, while a custom-fitted leather strap tapering from 20 mm to 18 mm completes its refined silhouette.

The Movement

Shaped for the case.

Inside is a Miyota 9015 that Pedral has converted from automatic to manual winding and reworked into a rectangular movement measuring 27 × 20.6 × 3.5 mm. A round movement in a rectangular case leaves empty space; this one follows the shape of the watch. Without a rotor it stays at 3.5 mm, which is part of how the case stays at 7.7 mm. You wind it by the crown — the small ritual that comes with a hand-wound watch.

Kevin's Note

“A numeral is the first thing you read on a dial. It should be able to speak your language.”

Before You Commit

The questions most people have.

I've never heard of Pedral before.

Kevin has been designing watches in Stockholm since 2015. Over 400 pieces delivered to collectors in 30+ countries. Reviewed by independent watch media and recommended by collectors who own dozens of other watches.

What about production delays?

Timeline updates are sent directly from Kevin throughout production — not automated emails. If something changes, you hear it from the person responsible.

I can't see it in person before buying.

Most owners say the watch is better in person than in photos. High-resolution images and full specifications are available for every edition, and Kevin answers questions personally before you order.

What will it cost?

€1,100. This edition is hand-wound only, powered by a Pedral-modified Miyota 9015 — reworked into a rectangular movement (27 × 20.6 × 3.5 mm) that follows the shape of the case.

When will it be delivered?

Delivery is expected between late Q1 and early Q2 2027, following prototype development in late Q4 2026 / early Q1 2027. Pieces are delivered in the order they were purchased — first come, first served. Final specifications, materials and availability are subject to prototype development.

Can I return it?

The Bangla edition is made to order for each buyer, so it can't be returned under the EU custom-goods exemption (Art. 16(c) of the Consumer Rights Directive). Your statutory warranty still applies in full. If you have any doubts about size or dial before ordering, write to Kevin directly — he responds personally.

Why Bangla numerals?

Because the numerals on a dial can carry something of who you are. Bangla numerals — also called Bengali numerals — are read every day by hundreds of millions of people in Bangladesh and India, from Dhaka to Kolkata, Agartala and Assam, and across the diaspora. Yet they almost never appear on a fine watch. Ten pieces only, made to order.
